Assessments & ReportsAssessment and Student Reports

Formal student reports are issued twice per year, on the last week of Terms 2 and 4. The reports are system generated by the Education Department so that all government schools have the same report format. An Interim report is issued toward the end of Term 1 so parents can see how their child/ren are progressing.

Three way conferences between parent, teacher and student are also offered when required during the year. Parents are invited to discuss student progress with classroom teachers and to attend information sessions, as part of an ongoing reporting and communication process. Reports should contain no surprises for parents if the communication process is working.

The National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) is an annual assessment for students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9. NAPLAN tests the sorts of skills that are essential for every child to progress through school and life, such as reading,
writing, spelling and numeracy. The assessments are undertaken nationwide, every year, in the second full week in May. NAPLAN is made up of tests in the four areas (or ‘domains’) of:

NAPLAN tests skills in literacy and numeracy that are developed over time through the school curriculum and are an important measure of student ability across the nation.

To get a sense of the ‘look and feel’ of the tests and to understand what types of questions are asked, a full set of example NAPLAN tests is available.

As many are aware, Education Ministers across Australia have agreed in principle for NAPLAN to be an online assessment by 2019. To ensure Western Australian public schools will be ready, our school has been invited to be part of a two year project to explore the type of preparation and support that staff and students may require in completing online assessments. The project involves our staff and students trialling sample assessments online and providing feedback on technical and other matters that may arise. This is an exciting opportunity for our school.
